O 06--POLYLEPIS LODGE EL ANGEL NATIONAL PARK

The main highlights of this Overnighter is the serenity and uniqueness of the Angel National Park. Our lodge is nestled ( 11,600 ft) in a deep glacial valley and surrounded by a Polylepis forest, endemic Frailejon shoots (Espeletia Pycnophylla) and mystical lakes. Made and decorated in a rustic style, using wood and hay, you’ll be enchanted. Activities include hiking, fishing and horseback riding. Other visits that can be done are to a colonial hacienda where sugarcane juice is extracted and asparagus is farmed, also we will visit an Afro-Ecuadorian community and see their crafty mask making. This trip is almost too much, for just two days!

O 07—OTAVALO and SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES

The main highlights of this Overnighter is the famous and bustling Otavalo market. Otavalo is considered the most important indigenous market in South America, and when you see it, we are sure you will agree. Besides bartering and shopping in the main market and the Poncho Plaza, we will also visit the surrounding communities that have specialized for generations in craft making. For example, Peguche (pan flutes & weavings), Carabuela (weavings & sweaters), Iluman (hats), Cotacachi (leather goods), San Antonio de Ibarra (wood carvings) to mention a few. We will also visit the spectacular crater lake Cuicocha and the beautiful lake of San Pablo. Lodging will be in an old colonial hacienda. This trip will give you an in depth view of Otavalo and its people.

O 08—EL ALISO CLOUDFOREST LOG CABIN

The main highlights of this Overnighter are the serenity and uniqueness of being in pristine Cloud Forest. El Aliso ( 7,000 ft) is a large Log Cabin located on the western flanks of the Andes, in the Amazon basin, where the only sounds are the streams and songs of a huge variety of birds. You’ll be enchanted by the lodge with its cozy rooms and a warm fireplace to enjoy the cold and misty nights. Activities include nocturnal and day time hiking in primary cloud forest, trout fishing, horseback riding and most importantly the observation of birds, with nearly 400 registered species. On our way back to Quito, we will relax in the Papallacta hot springs. We highly recommend this trip for people who enjoy the outdoors, nature, fishing and bird watching.

O 10—PAPALLACTA HOT SPRINGS

This is, more than anything, a romantic and relaxing getaway. Your lodge ( 11,500 ft) is nestled in a deep valley with great views of the Western Andes and cloud forest. This Overnighter will allow you to relax in hot springs as much as you like and anytime you want in almost your private hot springs. The springs of Papallacta are well known for their restorative effects of the crystalline thermal waters (sulfate alkaline terreous). If you want to get out of the water, there are activities such as hiking in cloud forest and paramo, trout fishing, horseback riding and bird watching. If your feeling romantic or just want to rela in the hot springs, this is definitely your trip!
